Makin' a Movie in the TL

For the past two Saturdays, I've been in the Tenderloin with a few other Bold Locals and friends filming a movie. Chrissy Loader wrangled up a few of TBI's all-stars (Abby Wilcox, N.W. Smith, Jennifer Jones, Klover Kim, and Mauri Skinfill) to help her make her second short film, Sully Marooned.

Our first day of shooting was on the streets. To be honest, I wasn't sure how it would go. First of all, it was raining on and off that first morning. I was also afraid the locals would be annoyed with us being in their way. But it ended up being a really fun day, and part of it was because of the people in the neighborhood. Lots of folks were very curious about what we were doing. Some stopped to ask questions or just watched as we shot scenes on Leavenworth Street.

During one scene, the main character, Sully, was supposed to get in his car and drive off. Unfortunately, the actor wasn't familiar with the old BMW being used and was having major problems getting the car started. The guy in the back of the photo above was taking photos of us filming. When he realized Sully couldn't start the car, he ran up and offered his help. Apparently, he had some background with fixing old cars. I'm not sure if it was his advice or not, but shortly after, we got the car running!

This last Saturday, we wrapped up our Tenderloin location shots. This time, we were inside an apartment on Leavenworth (of course we're inside when the weather is nice), but we took advantage of the 'hood's awesome cheap eats to feed the talent (Thank you Lee's Sandwiches!).
