This Sunday, March 30, from noon to 3 p.m., nonprofit Asha San Francisco presents its annual Holi celebration. Holi is the Indian spring festival of colors, but as you'll see from these photos, it's essentially a gigantic event where participants throw rainbow-hued dust (made from cornstarch and food dyes) at each other. It's a messy, beautiful, and really fun affair.
Asha SF's Holi party takes place at James Lick Middle School in Noe Valley. Tickets are $20 (you can only buy tickets online; no sales at the door!), and include unlimited rainbow dust to throw to your heart's content. Aside from the color fight, the event also features Indian food trucks, live DJs, performances, and dancing. Proceeds go to help underprivileged children in India get basic education via Asha.
