Attention drivers: A two-mile stretch of southbound I-280, between the 6th/King Street and the Pennsylvania on-ramps, will be shut down starting 9 p.m. tonight and will not reopen until Tuesday morning (around 5 a.m.). According to KTVU, Caltrans will be closing this part of the freeway in order for a $3 million project to earthquake proof the roadway.

Unfortunately, because it's Memorial Day weekend, there'll be lots of drivers who may attempt to drive that stretch. Adding to that, there are Giants games all weekend. In preparation, the Giants have sent notices to season ticket holders about the closure, and have been urging people to use public transportation to get to the game.

This weekend will not be the only time that the 280 will be closed for repairs – the earthquake proofing project will continue on July 4th and Labor Day holiday weekends, and will include parts of the northbound 280.
