There'll Be Naked People on Bikes This Saturday (NSFW)

Jun 13 at 11am

Saturday is the 11th Annual World Naked Bike Ride, an event that brings together cyclists, environmental activists, and exhibitionists for a ride in the buff. The point of the ride isn't just for the love of being nude in public; it's also a protest against the global dependency on oil. The event, WNBR explains, is "to endorse more bike riding and our nudity expresses our vulnerability to these matters [caused by oil dependency]. It also draws attention to our cause."

This will be the third naked ride in 2014 for the SF contingent of WNBR, but this time, we'll do it in unison with rest of the naked riders of the world.* And when I say "we" I mean "not me, but you brave people who like being naked in public. "

SF World Naked Bike Ride meets at Justin Herman Plaza (on the northeast side of Vaillancourt Fountain) this Saturday, June 14, at 10:30 a.m.  Although riders will be partially or fully nude (it's really all about your comfort level), feel free to bring paints, glitter, or other accessories or embellishments to add to your bodies and/or bikes. The ride will end with a party and festivities at Ocean Beach.

WNBR - San Francisco notes on its Facebook page, "we have already had 5 WNBRs while under cloud of the oppressive Weiner anti-nudity ordinance, with NO citations or complaints. If you are still uncertain, than its best to have a sarong, a beach wrap or shorts ready for quick coverup."

*Although it's called a "world" event, it actually only involves 10 cities in the northern hemisphere, including San Francisco.
