Outside Lands tickets sold out in 24 hours this year. But for folks who absolutely must be on scene when Kanye, Macklemore, and Tom Petty play in Golden Gate Park this August, there might still be an option. They could, literally, work their way in. The festival and its staffing agencies are hosting a job fair today at Bill Graham Civic Auditorium. They’re hiring festival site crew, bartenders, security guards, and kitchen staff.
The job fair started at 10 a.m. and only goes until 3 p.m., so if you’re home on the couch you better hurry, and if you’re at work, warn your boss about that long lunch now. Print and fill out this application before you go to save time.
Festival site crew are required to be able to lift 25 pounds. Security guards need a valid California guard card, and bartenders must be TIPS or LEAD certified. TIPS certification is pretty easy. It’s an online alcohol education course and costs about $40.
The poster I saw says they give priority to residents of the Sunset and the Richmond. When I went last year, no one asked where I lived, but definitely mention it for bonus points if you’re from that side of town. Be warned, though: the shifts are loooong. As in 12-14 hours. If that sounds like too much, you might consider volunteering. They still need a few people for “waste diversion.”
The Bill Graham Civic Auditorium is at 99 Grove St. Take Muni or BART to Civic Center and enter by Grove and Polk.
