Indie film August Falls is currently shooting in various locations throughout Oakland and Berkeley. Fairuza Balk (whose credits include The Craft and American History X) and Charles Baker (aka Skinny Pete from Breaking Bad) star as strangers who develop a relationship under the strangest of circumstances as a mother moves into her dead son’s apartment in order to find out how he really died. The movie is directed by indie director Sam Hancock (Being Us).
Many of the shooting days have been centered at the Lakehurst Apartments near Lake Merritt, and there’s been at least one scene filmed at Lake Park. Berkeley’s Revival Bar + Kitchen is the host to an important plot point, and Baseball Hall of Famer Joe Morgan — who played for the Giants and the A’s — is lending his mansion in the hills for a key scene in the meeting of Balk’s and Baker’s characters.
August Falls also did some shooting on a yacht in Sausalito, and the crew went down to San Carlos to film at that city’s police station (perhaps because it’s quieter than the ones in the East Bay?). It should be fun to see how the streets of Oakland and Berkeley feature prominently in a film that may not be heavy on actual fun moments.
