Silent discos, or dance parties where music is pumped through wireless headphones for partygoers, have been around for years, but they continue to grow in popularity, now taking over non-club spaces, like parks and beaches. In San Francisco, Silent Frisco and Sunset Promotions are joining together to bring an ultimate Ocean Beach silent disco, what they're calling HushFest, at the picturesque location.
This all-day Ocean Beach party takes place on September 28 and features a bevy of DJs that include Rob Garza of Thievery Corporation, Fort Knox Five, Hard French, and Nonstop Bhangra, and Thunderball, to just name a few.
Like all silent discos, attendees must wear the ever-present headphones, but are offered a choice in music with the option of switching between channels and adjusting the volume to their liking.
This event is all ages, with families encouraged to come. And for once, shoes are not required for admission and in fact, are not recommended. Tickets are $20, with kids under 12 and dogs getting in for free. Music starts at 11 a.m. with Matt Haze hosting a kiddo disco set and ends when the sun goes down.
