This is really sad news. Robin Williams, San Francisco's hometown actor/comedian, was found dead at the age of 63 at the home in Tiburon he shares with his wife. KTVU.com is reporting that the Marin County Sheriff's Office said the death was likely a suicide.
According to Entertainment Weekly, his publicist issued a statement saying, “Robin Williams passed away this morning. He has been battling severe depression of late. This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time.”
We're crushed. More information when we have it. So sad for his family, friends, and all his fans.
Update: The Marin Independent Journal has more information on the circumstances around Williams' death, including the fact that he'd recently checked himself into rehab. And SFGate has a piece about San Francisco fans visiting the Mrs. Doubtfire house in remembrance of the actor/comedian. There were talks of a Mrs. Doubtfire 2 in the works, but The Independent reports that those plans will likely be scrapped now.
