Attention, P.Y.T.s: Michael Jackson’s birthday is this Friday (August 29) and people will be moonwalking on both sides of the Bay thanks to three tribute events.
You’ll wanna be startin’ somethin’ on August 28 with Down With The King, a dance party at Mighty starring DJs Shortkut, Expo, Cutso, Platurn and the team of Gordo & Timo. They’ll screen Thriller at 8 p.m., followed by an open bar from 8:30-9:30 — and the whole shebang is free before 11 p.m. with RSVP.
The next night (August 29), head to Oakland for Michael Jackson’s Birthday Bash, a two-part extravaganza that begins at Sweet Bar Bakery at 7 p.m. with a meal of Jackson’s favorite dishes cooked with love by owner Mani Niall, who was the King of Pop’s personal chef during the Thriller era. From there, head to the New Parkway Theater for a 9:30 p.m. screening of This Is It. The festive Thriller flash mob will possibly pop up in there somewhere, too.
On Saturday (August 30), the monthly Prince and Michael Experience, normally held at Madrone Lounge, will host a special Labor Day weekend event at Public Works. DJ Dave Paul curates mixes that venture way beyond the expected for true and deep fans, and for this one, he’s requesting all-white attire on the last socially acceptable night of the year to wear it. Hee hee!
