Union Square's Hidden Gems
I don't often think of Union Square as a spot for locals. So when I heard that our hometown gals from the Gallery of Jewels were opening up a location downtown, I came out to support. They've been champions of Bay Area designers for years and years, and besides, they have some gorgeous stuff.
The necklaces above are by Sarah Swell of Oakland. Check out that fishbone necklace! Not to mention the walrus tooth. This lady is doing some really interesting things, influenced by her New England upbringing connected to nature and the ocean.

This pendant by Dahlia Kanner from Rhode Island caught my eye immediately. I love the organic quality of her work. She obviously takes inspiration from things in the natural world, like trees, minerals, fungi, insects, skeletons, and bee hives.

These rings are hers as well. Playful textures are front and center in her work.

Carmen Q Hinckle of Mill Valley is also doing wonderful things with rings. She used traditional goldsmithing techniques to hand form each of these wedding bands individually.

Speaking of wedding rings, check out this white sapphire engagement ring. Talk about non-traditional and totally badass.
With jewelry pieces ranging from $30-$20,000, this shop is definitely the sort of place you'll want to hit in when you're in the I-just-got-paid-and-damn-it-I-deserve-some-bling mindset, or when your sig other is looking for gift ideas. I myself wasted no time in telling the BF about it.
