Note: We have chosen our January through April interns. Please check in again in late March/early April 2013 for an announcement of our next internship. Thanks!

It's that time again! We're looking for a new batch of interns!

We've been doing so much these days that we couldn't do it all without the help of our dedicated interns. Unlike a lot of other internships, the gig at The Bold Italic is a lot more than fetching coffee and filing paperwork; there's actual meaty work to be done on the daily (that's also fun and challenging). We're looking for people who wanna learn about what goes into working for an online publication, an online (and sometimes offline) shop, and events producing company. But we're also searching for those bright whippersnappers who are going to bring something new for us to learn from them. A Bold Italic intern is a do-er with an insatiable curiosity, an outgoing socializer, and completely in love with San Francisco.

There are currently three internship positions we're looking to fill: Design, Editorial, and Marketing/Communications.

Each gig is a four month stint, from January through April (Marketing/Communications is a five month gig starting in Dec), for 3-5 days a week (depending on your availability) in our Hayes Valley office. We pay our interns ($10.24/hr) and/or can give you school credit, based on your need.

A little about the criteria and requirements for each internship:

Design Intern

Responsibilities and Expectations

- Design backstories and promotional material for The Bold Italic.

- Assist the Design Lead with duties, as needed.

- Write weekly blog posts that focus on art/design.

- Help at The Bold Italic events (many of these events happen on weekday evenings).

Requirements

- Must have your own laptop you bring to the office.

- Must be fluent in Photoshop and Illustrator.

- Must possess excellent typography skills.

- Must be comfortable working with HTML and CSS.

- Available to come to the office at least 3 days a week, 5-7 hours per day, plus be able to work on assignments outside of office hours.

- Detail oriented, self-motivated, respects deadlines.

- Be a strong multi-tasker. You'll often be working on many projects at once throughout the day/week.

- A friendly, social person who is open to learn and receive constructive feedback.

- Illustration skills are a plus.

- Photography and/or video-making experience a plus.

To be considered for the Design Internship, please send a cover letter and your portfolio to melissa@thebolditalic.com

Editorial Intern

Responsibilities and Expectations

- Writing weekly blog posts, which will include on-the-spot reporting during and beyond office hours.

- Heading the Found Locals section of the site.

- General administrative duties, as needed by the staff.

- Populating the Events listings.

- Assisting with The Bold Italic's social media presence.

- Helping at The Bold Italic events (NB: many of these events happen on weekday evenings).

Requirements

- Must have your own laptop you can bring to the office.

- Available to come to the office at least 3 days a week (4-5 days preferred), 5-7 hours per day.

- Be able to work on assignments outside of office hours, if needed.

- Strong writing skills (please include 2-3 clips that demonstrate Bold Italic-style, first-person storytelling. In case you're wondering, links to blog posts are OK; attaching term papers and poetry, no bueno).

- Demonstrated experience and expertise with social networking sites. Wow us with how connected you are on the Internets.

- Detail oriented, self-motivated, respects deadlines. We love people who know what we want before we even know we want it.

- Be a strong multi-tasker. If you only can do one thing at a time, this internship is not for you. Chew bubblegum, rub your tummy, and pat your head all at once, and then some.

- A friendly, social person who is deeply in love with San Francisco and wants to tell the world about it. You'll be going out a lot (and then writing about it a lot for us).

- Must be in school, or have graduated from school within the period of one year or less.

The editorial internship is the perfect opportunity for someone who wants to gain experience and access into working for an online & print publication. Not only will you be collecting writing clips, but you'll get and valuable hands-on experience in helping put out The Bold Italic on all levels: online content and presence on a daily level; a weekly newsletter; an online (and sometimes pop-up) shop; and planning, organizing, and promoting events. You'll help our small team make The Bold Italic an even better experience for our dedicated followers.

To be considered for the editorial internship, send a cover letter, resume, and writing clips to sarah@thebolditalic.com. The cover letter should explain why you'd be a great fit for The Bold Italic, and not just be a generic form letter. Seriously.

Please refrain from emailing to ask if we got your resume/application. We'll be in touch if we think you're a fit. If you're worried we didn't get your application, send it again.

Communications/Marketing Intern

Responsibilities and Expectations

- Working closely with and providing administrative support to The Bold Italic's Marketing and Business Development teams.

- Writing and pitching the media about TBI projects and events.

- Writing blog posts for The Bold Italic.

- Maintaining TBI contact database.

- Assisting the marketing team at events

- Researching trends and innovative campaigns.

- Contributing to TBI's online communities on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, and our other social media communities.

Requirements

- Must have your own laptop you can bring to the office.

- Available to work in the office 3 days (4-5 days preferred), 5-7 hours per day.

- Be able to work on assignments outside of office hours, if needed.

- Self-motivated and extremely organized, with a high attention to detail.

- Strong communication skills. We're looking for someone with a professional, but friendly and conversational writing voice.

- A very socially active person in the music, arts, and/or tech scenes. You go out a lot, know a ton of people, and naturally intermingle your personal life with your work life.

To be considered for the marketing/communications internship, send a cover letter and resume to sarah@thebolditalic.com. The cover letter should explain why you'd be a great fit for The Bold Italic, and not just be a generic form letter. Seriously.

Please refrain from emailing to ask if we got your resume/application. We'll be in touch if we think you're a fit. If you're worried we didn't get your application, send it again.
