Tartine Presents Ashley Thayer

When I was getting breakfast this morning at Tartine I noticed the fantastic new installation of paintings and quilts that went up today. The show, titled Aequum by artist/dyer Ashley Thayer, is an exploration of form inspired by water. The pieces are stunning interpretations of chemistry and hydrodynamics translated through the visual language and craft of quilting and textile dying. There is a lovely play between order and chaos in her work, as the strong geometric patterns are interrupted by bleeds of of rich color and texture. During the run of the show, Gravel & Gold will be carrying a limited run of Ashley's hand-dyed silk scarves and napkins. There is an opening reception tonight from 8 p.m. - 10 p.m., and the show will be up till January 18th.
