On Wednesday evening we held a private event for Bold Italic magazine and email newsletter subscribers at the Ice Cream Bar in Cole Valley. We love the Ice Cream Bar for bringing back the old school soda fountain and serving up frappes, malts, phosphates, lactarts, egg creams, and panaceas using the original recipes from the 1800s (as well as awesome sundaes). 

We got a little insight into the process of soda-making from Russel Davis, who created the menu while he was working at Rickhouse, and won a Bartender of the Year award for 2011. We also dug into the Ice Cream Bar's new savory menu, sampling egg salad like your grandmother used to make, grilled cheeses, and hot dogs on housemade brioche.

Also, Brian Boitano showed up! Yes, that Brian Boitano. The figure skater. Or more accurately, the figure skater who was made forever famous by South Park.
