Favorite Wooden Chair (and Art Show!)

Chair_1

I'm a huge nerd for the school of local artists making awesome things out of reclaimed wood. After writing about Woodshop and drooling over their gorgeous tables, chairs, surfboards, and signs that collective creates out there by the beach, I finally put in an order for  a customized piece of my own. Woodshop's Josh Duthie runs the sweet seat line called Chairtastic, which we also featured in this piece, and he made me the amazing work of art you see on the left and below.

The chair was made using an old, rusted gold frame Josh picked up at the flea market, but the best bits are the seat and back, which have a solid smooth finish on the front and are rough and natural on the backside. There's even moss on some of the burl bits! (I'm not a pro photographer so you have to imagine the detail in those bits a bit).

If you want to see Woodshop's beautiful natural designs up close, I'd recommend hitting their open house this Saturday from 3-6. All those fine furniture and surfing creations will be on display. They're also a block away from the Devil's Teeth Baking Company and blocks away from Outerlands, meaning you could make a day out of supporting the art of eating and woodshopping all in one day.
