Gimme 5: Harvey Milk Airport? BART Rave, and the Return of the Mavericks
It’s been a busy, busy week. Here’s what you missed, in case you slept through it. (Hint: A lot of cool things went down on BART when you weren’t looking)
Harvey Milk International Airport? San Francisco supervisor David Campos is leading an initiative to re-name SFO in honor the late LGBT activist, Harvey Milk. If Campos gets the support of just one more supervisor (he currently has five on his side) the initiative will appear on the November ballot. If passed, San Francisco would have the first international destination point dedicated to an openly gay person. (ABC News)
Time to unroll your rainbow flag because San Francisco also won an LGBT award this week. (Man, are we on a roll or what?) After being excluded from the Advocate's Top 10 Gayest Cities in America, the city has reasserted its position as a gay mecca thanks to travel site GayCities. SF was named numero uno in both “most scenic” and “most pride.” (HuffPost SF)
Last Sunday marked yet another year celebrating public transit by not wearing pants on BART. And while you may feel like seeing a person sans their bottom half is just another day on the commuter haven – this time even businessmen and women got in on the fun. Still, I don’t think I would sit on any BART seat without protective covering. (For pictures head over to SF Weekly)

Then, just when we thought BART couldn’t get any cooler, there’s been a series of silent raves! Yes, that’s right. A silent rave on BART. Oakland based company, ZEROdB hits up the commuter haven every Saturday. Watch out for them this weekend. (HuffPost SF)
Finally, the Mavericks International Big Wave Surf Competition is set for this Sunday, January 20. The event is held off Pillar Point in Half Moon Bay and is sure to attract renowned surfers from around the world. Our sports loyalties will be a bit challenged that day, however; the 49ers game against the Atlanta Falcons that determines who gets their day at the Super Bowl scheduled on the same day!
