About Annetta
A history geek and a lover of the obscure, Annetta Black delights in exploring the underbelly of San Francisco looking for the things lurking beneath the surface, behind locked doors, and under the city streets. A chronic case of wanderlust has taken her to far-flung corners of the globe, most recently to Southeast Asia where she climbed semi-stable mounds of former-temple ruins and (with limited success) fended off giant tropical spiders and head-climbing monkeys. When in town, she can be found haunting antiquarian book shops, snacking on spicy food, or swilling a G&T while plotting her next escape. A fan of the city's sordid past, she can tell you about Emperor Norton's dogs or Sutro's mummies, and is always looking for the weird stories behind places we think we know. She is also senior editor at AtlasObscura.com.
