About Rachel
Rachel Caplan is committed to supporting independent filmmakers and increasing exhibition opportunities for their work, as well as building audiences for documentary film – particularly around environmental and sustainability issues. She has over thirteen years experience in film exhibition and distribution including work for the Edinburgh, London and San Francisco International Film Festivals, L.A. studios (Paramount, Universal & DreamWorks), and U.K. independent film organizations. From 2007-2009, she was Festival Director for the San Francisco Ocean Film Festival, the first and largest showcase for ocean related films in North America. Rachel recently founded the San Francisco Green Film Festival, to take place in Spring 2011 and provide a dynamic forum for films and discussions that link media arts with environmental activism. Rachel has a Masters degree in Cinema & Television Studies from the British Film Institute (BFI). She has been a member of BAFTA since 2000, the Pleiades Network and TEDxSF since 2010, and has served as Board Treasurer for Bay Area Women in Film & Media since 2008.
