About Tarek

This man loves radio.

Tarek Al-Zand is a radio host, producer, and program director. He has been involved in radio since 1997 and has provided audio content, managerial support, and professional training for numerous stations. Most recently, Tarek worked as the Program Director at CKDU 88.1FM, a community radio station in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. In this position, he diversified the program schedule, increased community involvement and improved promotions, fundraising and listenership. In 2011, CKDU was voted by the local newspaper as the best radio station in Halifax.

Tarek may also respond to the name JD Pomo. As an audio artist, he is focused on storytelling and soundscapes. He's an on-air presenter of non-linear stories that mesh together reality and fiction: part-soundscape, part-experimentation, and all audio. His vignettes focus on the bizarre moments of the everyday and provide audio snapshots of the wild and weird.

Now a SF resident, Tarek is excited to capture the sounds of the Muni and the echoes of the alleys. Press record.
