The Bold Italic invites you to take part in the latest edition of our drinking and dining series, A Moveable Feast. These are private affairs where you’ll savor the specialties of the house, learn the inside story about the concepts driving the menus, and meet the passionate food and drink lovers who created them.
This time we're partnering with Nombe, a Mission izakaya restaurant co-run by husband-and-wife team Gil Payne and Mari Takahashi. This couple knows a thing or two about the izakaya, as they were one of the first to introduce the city to Japanese bar cuisine. Nombe (which translates in Japanese to someone who likes to drink heartily) specializes in small plates made with local, seasonal ingredients to go with their premium offerings of sake and Japanese beers.
Get a taste of what Nombe has to offer at our special backstory dinner on Tuesday, July 19, at 7 p.m. You'll meet Gil and Mari, get a brief intro to izakaya dining, and enjoy a delicious kaiseki (multi-course) sake-paired meal.
