can't quit show biz
Neighborhood: SOMA
Gig: Director, Unspeakable Projects
What event will we find you at this week? Opening night of the AMTK solo exhibition at Unspeakable Projects on Wednesday. And then Thursday through Sunday at The Phoenix Hotel for ArtPad SF. Hit me up if you want a VIP pass.
What's your most embarrassing SF moment? Getting thrown out of The Independent for lobbing an empty cup at a boring band. Twice.
Where would you have your last meal on Earth? Currently, the burger at Citizen's Band, medium rare with a bottle of Albariño. I've also perfected a Bolognese that's a close contender.
What's your secret spot in town? The 12th floor terrace of the new federal building on Mission street with a panoramic view of SOMA. It's free and open to the public — once you make it past security.
What's your favorite San Francisco institution? Bottom of the Hill. Booker Ramona Downey has single-handedly done more for underground culture than any other music or art venue in the city combined. The Attic at closing time is a close second. Still nasty after all these years.
What's the question you wish we asked? Who are your favorite artists? I'm a big fan of Sandow Birk and collect his work whenever I can. Plus all of the emerging artists on the Unspeakable roster. I'm also obsessed with garage rock. I love underground art in all its forms.
