Neighborhood: Western Addition

Gig: Owner of The Muse Department, a space for art, music and healing

What are you up to these days? I just got my MA in Counseling and Somatic Psychology. I'm spending a lot of time at the Muse Department, helping folks work through anxiety, depression, creative blocks, and such. I also just completed the first round of working on two short films for an ongoing collaborative neighborhood project called Audio Manifestations: Voices from the Street. The rest of my time is spent soaking sunshine at the beach and hanging out with beautiful friends.

Where would you have your last meal on earth? Gussie's Chicken and Waffles. They have the best honey cornbread ever!

Who's your favorite quintessional local character? My next door neighbor, Miguel. He makes the beautiful hanging mobiles that bring happiness to everyone who walks by.

Where's your go-to date place? On the Bridge in Japantown. To me, this is the most non-awkward food eating situation to be in on a first date. They have shelves filled with comic books to look at while you wait for your delicious food.

Why do you love your neighborhood? I love the Fillmore district! This is where the East meets jazz meets Japan meets the Wild West of all of the quirky in-betweens. I feel like we are having a renaissance here right now, which is very exciting and inspiring.

What's your favorite under-the-radar SF restaurant? Lavash on Irving. Jay's Cheesesteak on Divisadero. And the nonchalantly x-rated baked goods from The Cake Gallery on 9th Street.

What do you get obsessive about here in SF? The local radio station, KPOO at 89.5! They play reggae, soul, hip-hop, blues, jazz, gospel; only the best, and commercial free.
