SF is... an obsession that ignited in '97 during my first visit, gnawed away at me until I left London in 2001, and continues undimmed. This is my love letter to the city: SF Sun Houses
What have you been meaning to check out? I'm busting to visit the Pritikin Museum when it opens. I had a snoop around the grounds a few weeks back and my eyes were like saucers looking in through the windows.
Who's your favorite local character? Probably a historic one – James "Butt" Riley (King of the Hoodlums, Nude Model). The chancers of the Gold Rush really are part of this city's DNA.
Where does everybody know your name? Martha Brothers Coffee on Church Street. I go there with my daughter most mornings and I've evolved from being known as "Large Coffee" to "Eleanor's Dad" to "Michael."
What's your favorite San Francisco institution? The Fillmore West. When I was a kid in Wales, the poster artist Rick Griffin really defined my concept of SF, so ultimately was a huge part of me coming here.
