Neighborhood: Dogpatch

Gig: Principal, Billy Ola Hutchinson Calligraphy & Stationery

What are you up to these days? Expanding my stationery offerings, learning the fine art of letterpress, and teaching hand lettering.

What event will we find you at the week of August 6? The Jean Paul Gaultier exhibit at the De Young Museum.

SF is... exquisite!

Where would you have your last meal on earth? It would depend on the time of day. Should it be morning I would prefer to go to Boulettes Larder. Gary Danko would be excellent for dinner.

Where's your go-to date place? L’Osteria del Forno on Columbus Ave. between Green and Union Streets.

Where's your secret spot? Third Street Boxing Gym – it’s a great place to workout in Dogpatch.

What's your favorite under-the-radar SF restaurant? City View Dim Sum on Commercial Street between Kearny and Montgomery.

Where do you go to relax and get away from it all? San Francisco Art Institute – emerging artists, beautiful courtyard, and great views of San Francisco.

What's your favorite SF institution? San Francisco Center for the Book is a wonderful resource for book and letter press arts.

What would you change about SF? The lack of affordability.

    Linda Schumacher
turns street trash into fine art
Sometimes you can find real gems just sitting on the sidewalk, waiting to be reclaimed. I'm sitting on one now -- an old oak chair from around 1900.
  • Work of Art
    Kelly Malone
redesigns The Bold Italic’s offices into a gallery-worthy wonderland
What Ms. Malone did for the Bold Italic space was fantastic. I live by pencils and never considered them a design element -- so smart!
  • Ever Gold
    Elia Varela Serra
enters the Tenderloin's most experimental gallery
I pass by the gallery on the way to Pho Tan Hoa. It's great to see what emerging artists are doing.
