Neighborhood: The Mission

Gig: Recovering Micromanager, Paxton Gate

Where does everybody know your name? I’m no Cliff Clavin, but a good friend of mine is the bar manager at Range, and it’s three doors away from Paxton Gate.

What's your most embarrassing SF moment? I moonlighted for years as a bartender at Kilowatt and other Mission bars while getting Paxton Gate off the ground, which means I’ve observed many, but participated in few.

Where would you have your last meal on earth (and what would you eat)? As sappy as it sounds, I’d say home with friends and family barbequing flank steak marinated in a little lime, salt, and pepper, with yam fries and some greens.

Where do you get your city gossip? My staff is comprised of a busy bunch of bees and they bring the juicy stuff back to the hive.

What's your go-to date place? The Slow Club is old school, but I can walk there from my house and the combo of a burger and a martini never fails to change my frame of mind.

Where do you go to relax and get away from it all? (here in town) Probably the deck that we (Paxton Gate) built off the back of my house — southern exposure, lots of sun, plants, a little snippet of a view.

What's your favorite San Francisco institution? I’d have to say the Botanical Gardens, where early in my career I spent hours and hours learning plants and combing through their amazing botanical library.
