Neighborhood: The Mission

Gig: Gallery Manager, San Francisco Arts Commission Gallery

What are you up to these days? Being an aunt to three, helping run the SFAC Gallery, writing for KQED and Art Practical, and being a chef’s wife.

What event will we find you at this week? Passport 2011  on October 23. OK, this is a shameless plug for a SFAC Gallery event, but it is really a ton of fun.

Where would you have your last meal on Earth? The abalone at Boulevard (and it’s not just because my partner is the Chef de Cuisine there). Why should the otters get to have it all?

Where do you get your local gossip? Mission Local and SFist. They have pictures to prove it.

Who's your favorite quintessential local character? Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. They are all about joy and being sex positive – two things I need lots of in my life.

What's your favorite under-the-radar SF restaurant? Sapporo-Ya Japanese Restaurant. It’s on the second floor of the Japantown mall. They have the best ramen in the world and terrific décor.

What local merchant have you been meaning to check out? Wonderland Gallery and Boutique. I haven’t been in this place yet, just walked by during off hours, but they seem to have really built a supportive community in a short amount of time and they sell local artists work, which I will always support.

This is an article I wish everyone in the City would read. It effectively shows that graffiti artists writers are deeply invested in the community and participating in visual culture. I also like Kanat’s sad but true attempts at tagging himself.
