SF is... surprising. All the time.

Who's your favorite quintessential local character? The Bushman, down at Fisherman's Wharf. He's rad because he'll scare the crap out of you and is ballsy enough to ask you for money. 

Why do you love your neighborhood? I love Noe Valley because it's just far enough from the madness of the rest of the city and you get Mission-like weather here.

What's your favorite SF institution? The streetcars - not the cable cars. I love how each of them have a bit of history and how they are brought to SF from all over the country and all over the world.

What local merchant have you been meaning to check out? Public Bikes. I dig what they're doing to make biking even more democratic.

Where's your secret spot in town? There's a rooftop terrace on the 7th or 8th floor of a building downtown. Not too many people know about it but it's perfect place to have a quiet weekday lunch, with the buzz and sound of the city in the background.
