Iso Rabins Forager and Chef

is a chef, writer, organizer, and forager

Iso

Neighborhood: Upper Haight

Gig: Owner, forageSF

Where does everybody know your name? At La Victoria bakery, the shared kitchen I cook out of.

Who's your favorite quintessential local character? I hate to say it, because we don't get along so well anymore, but for me Chicken John seems to define offbeat San Francisco.

Where do you go to relax and get away from it all? The Phoenix. It feels like a Boston bar (where I went to college). It's a good place to go in the Mission if you don't feel like being a part of the scene.

What's your favorite San Francisco institution? El Farolito.

What local merchant have you been meaning to check out? I've been meaning to go to Magnolia for years now.

What's the question you wish we asked? Question #1: What old VHS tape do you have sitting in your office that you pulled out of the old desk you just got on Craigslist? Leprechaun. Question #2: What do you plan to put in the cool pull-out section of the desk? A bottle of Bulleit Bourbon and two glasses.
