What event will we find you at the week of July 16? I'm playing bari sax and percussion for the Dusty Stax/Bold Italic Summer Soul Party at the Verdi Club.
Where would you have your last meal on earth? I might just go to Tommy's Joynt and get the pastrami and corned beef dinner plate with a blue cheese salad on the side. I've probably been there 500 times, and it's never bad.
Who's your favorite quintessential local character? My friend Mr. Lucky. He's a lounge singer, artist, and private investigator. He drives a '61 Chrysler New Yorker, knows the city inside and out, and has a million great stories.
Where's your go-to date place? The Hot Tubs on Van Ness. It's a little sleazy, but that's the point.
Where do you go to relax and get away from it all? The noontime concerts at Old St. Mary's.
What's your favorite SF institution? Tosca Cafe in North Beach is a true San Francisco institution. One of the best bars in the world.
What do you get obsessive about here in SF? I get caught up in nostalgia. There is so much history around here.
What local merchant have you been meaning to check out? This knife place that opened in my neighborhood, Town Cutler.
What would you change about SF? The homeless problem, exorbitant rent prices, cold summers. But I would also settle for a decent bowling alley.
