Where does everybody know your name? Most bars in the Mission that have bands play (actually, probably just most bars in the Mission in general), but especially the Casanova Lounge and certainly at Sex Nite on Sunday afternoons at the Beauty Bar.
Where would you have your last meal on earth (and what would you eat)? I'd start with the date shake at Cafe Gratitude (I won't say the drink's proper name). Then I'd have a blended well margarita at Puerto Alegre (it's the only way - don't go top shelf there, it's not the same!), then I'd run over to Memphis Minnie's for their banana cream pie. Did I forget the middle food part? Probably Southern brunch at the Elite Cafe on upper Fillmore.
Who's your favorite quintessential local character? Craig Baldwin is pretty fascinating. Also, closer to home, Drew from Personal & the Pizzas and Garett Goddard from every other band (including the Pizzas).
What's your secret spot in town? Hobson's Choice in Upper Haight. It's overrun by jocks, so no one I know would set foot in there without me, but their punch is still one of my favorite things. Happy hour gets you a half-priced punch that tastes like happiness and fixes all your problems for a few hours. Plus you can order food from next door and have it delivered to you.
What's your favorite San Francisco institution? Puerto Alegre still does it. Best cheap margarita in town. Pay no attention to the tourists. If you go by yourself you can usually get a spot at the bar. Great place to watch a baseball game if you don't want to go to a sports bar.
What local merchant have you been meaning to check out? Fire Escape Farms - I need some plants!
