Matthew Passmore Artist Provocateur
sees something headed this way
Neighborhood: The Mission
Gig: Principal and Co-Founder at Rebar
What are you up to these days? Working on a variety of art and design projects when I’m not wiping baby barf from my sleeves or riding bikes with the baby’s older brother.
Who's your favorite quintessential local character? Daniel Handler/Lemony Snicket. He’s smart, quirky, we love his books, and dude was valedictorian of my high school class. He’s the cultural lovechild of Robin Williams and Herb Caen.
Where's your go-to date place? Without the kids: Marin Headlands because I love to behold the City with my wife. With the kids: the Randall Museum because my son Ben puts on a mean DIY puppet show.
Why do you love your neighborhood? Because there’s cultural revolution in full swing on 20th Street!
What's your favorite under-the-radar restaurant? Jai Yun in Chinatown. It’s a fixed menu culinary adventure created by a master chef.
What do you get obsessive about here in SF? Our recurring booms and their eventual busts.
What local merchant have you been meaning to check out? Public Bikes, because if I mention them in interviews maybe they’ll give me one?
What would you change about San Francisco? Turn more parking spaces into people places!
