Matt Semmelhack First-Time Restauranteur

is rarely frantic - now is one of those times

Neighborhood: SOMA

Gig: Owner, AQ Restaurant & Bar

What are you up to these days? Frantically addressing every detail involved in opening my first restaurant.

Where would you have your last meal on earth? AQ, of course! But if it's Christmas Day and we're closed, I'd have the kimchee ramen from Katana-Ya on Geary.

Why do you love your neighborhood? So much opportunity and possibility. Every week there is an exciting new business popping up, new restaurants to try, and new people to meet.

Where do you go to relax and get away from it all? The north face of Bernal Heights Park.

What do you get obsessive about here in SF? A well-made martini.

What would you change about SF? The process to start, develop, and operate a small business is incredibly difficult and confusing. If we want to see the local economy improve, we have to start by making it easy for entrepreneurs to open businesses, pay taxes, and employ locals!
