Where would you have your last meal on earth (and what would you eat)? My house, with friends and family. We'd start at about 2 in the afternoon with a big table stretched through the whole house and end up underneath it, drinking single malt until 5 a.m. the next day.

Who's your favorite quintessential local character? That crazy guitar player on Valencia with the zebra jacket who stands in doorways and shouts at people; he reminds me of my retirement plan.

What's your go-to date place? Delfina with my Tania.

Where do you go to relax and get away from it all? The swimming pool on the roof of UCSF at Mission Bay.

What's your favorite San Francisco institution? Watching other people play the parking game.
