Robbie Kowal Defender of the Soul of SF
works hard so you can play hard
What event will we find you at this week? This week is the massive MacWorld/iWorld conference and the music shows we are producing for them at Moscone and Mezzanine.
What are you up to these days? We are hard at work on MacWorld, and planning a huge summer of Silent Frisco events all over the US. We just announced the 16th Annual SF Mardi Gras Ball, which will be our 16th Anniversary as a company. We have about 25 other local club shows planned for 2012 and are already working on Sea of Dreams, Ghost Ship, and another new summer event we will be unveiling this year.
The Silent Frisco thing is probably most important. I am a resident DJ at Bonnaroo Festival and in 2005 they asked me to DJ their first “Silent Disco” I got hooked on the concept and a few years ago Sunset got its hands on its own headphones and launched Silent Frisco. We now have 1000 headphones and have been producing silent performances all over the US.
Where would you have your last meal on earth? Shimo on Clement and 21st. I’d have the Walu sashimi, a scallop handroll, live uni, and whatever else Shimo-san wanted me to try.
Where's your go-to date place? I’d probably say Chambers Eat + Drink, the new restaurant at the Phoenix Hotel. The vibe is unbelievable there. And if things go well, you can get a room!
What would you change about SF? I would like to see a 4 a.m. alcohol curfew like New York and most international cities. SF has the highest percentage of over 21’s of any major city in the US. We are adults and should be trusted to act like adults.
