San Francisco's Armory is famous for bringing people’s fetishes and fantasies to life, so it feels very appropriate that the Kink.com castle will be hosting the largest Game of Thrones-themed party in San Francisco on Saturday night. Which is to say: they'll be making porn for Game of Thrones geeks. And, this being San Francisco, you better believe people will be taking the costume code seriously – after all, guests will need to blend in with the arrow-shooting acrobats, medieval sword swallowers, and the general atmospheric transformation of 40,000 sq. ft. of the city's most infamous castle into Westeros and the Free Cities.
As a Game of Thrones addict, I'll admit, the Game of Thrones: A Royal Affair bash sounds like a pretty awesome, if kitschy, way to spend the Saturday night before the season four premiere on Sunday. If you show up in time for the free happy hour (9-10 p.m.), you’ll imbibe the official Game of Thrones craft beer from the Ommegang brewery. If you’re hungry, indulge in a food truck feast honoring King Robert Baratheon’s gluttony. If you hit the photobooth, you can pose in front of your favorite Game of Thrones backdrop. If you’re ready to dance, keep in mind that the DJs will occasionally yield the stage to some swordfighters and a dragon. Yup, you heard me: a dragon.
And if you feel like it’s not a trip to the Armory without some good, clean BDSM fun, buy a VIP ticket that gives you access to Theon’s torture chamber and a private viewing section with King Joffrey. There’s just one catch: unlike Westeros, which is torn asunder by dissent and disagreement, this party aims to create peace by uniting the tech and ye olde royal communities in support of a good cause.
The party is hosted by HackCancer, a philanthropic organization led by young SF professionals. All proceeds from ticket sales (which range from $40-$500; early bird priced-tickets have sold out) will go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, which is committed to curing blood cancers through research. Not only is the party a good cause, but it’s a good way for SF’s tech community to prove that it’s slightly less evil than the Lannisters.
