How to Rock Lisa Frank Nails

Taylorparty1

Found Local Taylor Watson of Party Nails knows her polish. She does nails right, unlike some other people I know (me). I'm just a little too impatient, and sloppy. But there comes a time when a girl's gotta do her nails when a pro isn't around, so I asked Taylor: What's a nail design that looks awesome but doesn't require extreme precision? Her answer: Lisa Frank nails.

If you didn't share my elementary school obsession with the color-crazy genius that is Lisa Frank, here's a two-link orientation, courtesy of one great Tumblr: check out this tiger and these unicorns.

Really brings me back. OK, onto the home manicure!

Start with a basic, clear bottom coat.

Add WHITE! This layer is important, because it will make your colors pop. And with Lisa Frank nails, pop is key.

Here's where it gets fun. Note the colors-to-come on the left.

Taylor finds a lot of nail polish deals at the Potrero Center Sally Beauty Supply, also notable for its mesmerizing wall of hair extensions made of real hair.

The great thing about this design is that it's supposed to be a little imperfect, so Taylor says it's a good starter manicure, even for people without steady hands like me.

Whoa! I didn't see that purple layer coming. Did you?

Pn7black

To make the trademark Lisa Frank black lines, you'll need a detailing brush (see it in action above). These babies are almost done. Drum roll...

This final hand pose is classic Party Nails.

If you'd prefer to learn from the diva herself, keep an eye out on Taylor's Facebook page for her next pop-up nail salon. She also does parties (obviously)! Enjoy.
