I've noticed that the intersection at 16th & Albion is typically pretty ripe with pigeons, but the other day, the pidge population was so intense it required some photographic documentation. I have no idea what they needed to discuss that day but it was obviously very serious. Either that, or they're setting up for a terrifying flash mob, waiting for someone to request "When Doves Cry" at Delirium.
I contacted Elizabeth Young at MickaCoo (a local pigeon and dove rescue organization) to ask if she had any insight on what was behind such a stunning congregation. She said that pigeons typically gather around a food source; which I guess means that they're there for Monk's Kettle, and thus way fancier than I thought.
Speaking of pigeons, stay tuned for an upcoming Pigeons of San Francisco story on The Bold Italic later this summer!
