Gimme 5: Feed The Beast
Thank God it's nearly the weekend. Before you skip off merrily into a Golden Gate sunset with that date you've been dreaming about all week, here's what you need to know to convince them you're knowledgeable/opinionated/literate.

A fascinating column about a poor stoner and his wife who got kicked out of a Who concert at the Oracle Arena for lighting up a joint has everyone wondering "will puffing pot at concerts now get you into trouble?" Up until now, the prevailing perception has been that San Franciscans are free to smoke weed as long as they are not causing a disturbance."I don't give a f*** if people smoke pot," one SF club manager said in the article. "I'd much rather have a house full of stoners than drunks. Pot smokers don't start fights." Turns out the Who only play in smoke-free venues to preserve Roger Daltry's sultry voice, but still, take another look around the next time you bust out a bong in public. (SF Weekly)

Moving on, one lucky couple struck gold in San Francisco last week. Carlos and Barbara Landeros were spending their Valentine's Day sightseeing at the Golden Gate Bridge when they came across a camera bag full of money – $11,060.42 to be exact – expensive photography equipment and credit cards. The do-good couple went to the police station (of course) and were able to return the lost money to a grateful tourist visiting from China. (HuffPost SF)
In more delicious news, the Travel Channel's newest show "Feed the Beast" is touring the country looking for the best late night grub spots. The show premieres March 6 at 9 p.m. and obviously the pilot episode had to take place in our fair city – noted capital of scrumptious post-drinking food options. In the episode, the host Mikey Roe visits local haunts El Farolito, Butter, Yuet Lee and Grubstake. Maybe in the future we'll see the Tamale Lady too. Watch a preview of the show at Butter above. An honest and sometimes heartbreaking interview with a social worker in the Tenderloin is an eye-opening look into San Francisco's toughest neighborhood. The social worker, Lorian, talks about dealing with patients with mental illness, drug addicts, and lots of human shit on the sidewalks. "The Tenderloin is where the majority of our clients live in residential hotels (SROs)," Lorian writes. "It's one of the two predominately black neighborhoods left in SF (the other is the Western Addition), and it's the center of the crack, heroin, and oxy drug culture, and it hosts the transgendered sex-worker scene. It's an incredible neighborhood." (VICE)

Finally, big changes are coming to Oakland's Art Murmur in the wake of the tragic shooting earlier this month that killed one teenager and injured three others in the Uptown neighborhood. Art Murmur announced that open alcohol containers will no longer be tolerated during the First Friday art walk, and beginning in March, the street festival will end at 9 p.m. rather than 10 p.m. (Contra Costa Times)
