Wondering what microfinance "tastes" like? It tastes like brown rice, seaweed, spicy shrimp, eggplant and unagi. It tastes like a dream. Specifically, microfinance tastes like the dream of two young men - Koji and Kan - who wanted to open a mobile food business in a hip food cart. They sell onigilly [oh-nee-ghee-lee], a traditional Japanese food made with brown rice and gourmet filling wrapped with seaweed.
Koji and Kan had the desire, the know-how and the guts to launch a business in a tough economy. They had the support of La Cocina's kitchen incubator project. But they didn't have access to affordable financing to get the food cart they needed to open up shop. Enter: Opportunity Fund. We lent them $10,000 last year and Koji and Kan have been open for business (and thriving) ever since!
The guys from Onigilly will be among the culinary entrepreneurs sampling their food at Taste of Microfinance on September 27th in San Francisco.
Come see what microfinance tastes like. You'll have fun while supporting Koji and Kan and other up-and-coming stars of the Bay Area's mobile food scene.
