Suddenly, A Knock on the Door
The short stories of Israeli writer Etgar Keret (The Nimrod Flipout, Girl on the Fridge) are among the more unusual pleasures in contemporary fiction. They really are short, rarely longer than two or three pages, and while writers from Keret's land are supposed always to be dealing with Serious Things, Keret's characters are more likely to be found playing cards with dwarfs, getting stuck onto ceilings with Superglue, or finding miniature zippers in their lover’s mouths. Michael Chabon hosts.
