Perhaps you've heard whispers about this ethereal elixir or tasted it on your travels — yet it remains elusive. No longer: Mezcal — Mexico's original spirit — has arrived in San Francisco in a big way. You can now try a rapidly expanding variety of mezcals at local bars and restaurants, in creative cocktails and interesting flights.
At this spirited class on Mezcal 101, local mezcal bloggers and afficionados Max Garrone and Susan Coss will join forces with Bricia Lopez from Los Angeles to guide you through the heady flavors of new and traditional varieties. We'll feature Alipus (this will be its US premiere), Pierde Almas, Del Maguey, Metl (espadin and madrecuishe - not currently available in the Bay Area), Wahaka, and a potential surprise. Also included: A sampling of flavor enhancing appetizers by Alfonso Dominguez of Oakland fave Tamarindo – including tacos hot off El TacoBike a chance to try a brand new, signature mezcal cocktail from Tamarindo, and of course, music.
This is a great introduction to the array of flavors of mezcal – and an opportunity to learn about the culture and history of the drink in Oaxaca, the people who make it, and how it pairs with food – in a uniquely Bold setting.
Must be 21+ to attend.
