Since 2009, The Bold Italic has been celebrating local creativity in San Francisco. Between our online mag, print publications, events, and pop-up shop, we focus on covering and collaborating with the artists, writers, local businesses, and organizations who make us excited to be living in the Bay Area. For one week this fall, though, we’re taking the show on the road, exporting a couple SF elements that we love to Los Angeles, Portland, and Seattle. 

Between Friday, Sept. 28 and Sunday, Oct. 7, we’ll be caravaning from Southern California to the Northwest with a pop-up shop, art show curated by Dan Johnson Lake, and nighttime event that combines Rice Paper Scissors’ Vietnamese street food with American Tripps’ Berlin-style ping-pong, DJs, and live music. The idea is to showcase what we’re excited about in San Francisco outside our borders and to show people back home what like-minded locals are enthusiastic about in our West Coast sister cities. During this week, all the content on the site will come from writers in Los Angeles, Portland, and Seattle, with stories and blog posts about life in those cities, as well as previews of our activities on the road and profiles of the folks we’re partnering with along the way. 

We're kicking off Bold Rush on September 28-29 in Los Angeles, where our host will be Poketo, the newly opened brick and mortar flagship store for art and design-driven wares, located in the booming Arts District of Downtown LA. Over two days we’ll be merging our art show and pop-up shop with selected Southern California artwork by Luisa Pelipetz, Mike Hsuing, and Emily Ryan. 

Our opening night party is Friday from 6 - 9 p.m. and will include an art show featuring SF and LA artists, The Bold Italic's retail pop-up installation, complimentary drinks, food from Rice Paper Scissors, DJs Chris A (Shore Leave) and Emily Ryan, and a live performance by Syrup Jeans (with members of Beachwood Sparks). 

Our closing event is the next night, Saturday, from 6-9 p.m. - an American Tripps Berlin-style ping pong party, with free libations and DJs Jimi Hey (WOW!) and Pickpocket (Donuts). 

Daytime pop-up shop hours are noon to 7. Night parties will be Friday and Saturday from 6-9 p.m. All events are FREE but we need folks to RSVP so we know how many are coming. Thanks!
