The Bold Italic and local author Robin Sloan present a celebration of San Francisco's camouflaged spaces, real and fictional, and the release of Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore. The journey begins at a secret SOMA location* and winds through a couple of our favorite clandestine stomping grounds – stops that are themed in alignment with the mysteries unveiled in Robin’s novel – for a text-based scavenger hunt. Comfortable shoes recommended. Headlamps optional.
So who is this Robin dude? He grew up near Detroit and now splits his time between San Francisco and the internet. He worked at Current TV and Twitter before becoming a full-time writer. His first novel, Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore, a mystery set inside a strange San Francisco bookstore, is coming from Farrar, Straus and Giroux in October. It's already earned a starred review from Publishers Weekly and been named one of the 15 books to read this fall by Newsweek. But he's not interested in doing just any old novel reading, and neither are we, so we've collaborated on an evening full of mysteries, revelations, and entertaining bits of communication. Sponsored by Templeton Rye.
