Fort Point
Location
Long Ave & Marine DrSan Francisco, CA 94129
Nestled at the southern base of the Golden Gate Bridge, Fort Point serves as a lookout point for San Francisco's harbor. The Fort was built during the Gold Rush in anticipation of needing to keep California's waterways secure. Thankfully, Fort Port has never seen battle, but has lent it's support during the Civil War and WWII by serving as military housing and offices.
Over the years, Fort Point has been a training school, an almost detention center, and an unmarried officers' home. In 1970, Fort Point became a national historic site and maintains its place alongside the Golden Gate Bridge. You can easily access the Fort by running along the northern shore of the Presidio past Crissy Field and the Warming Hut. If you're looking for Hopper's Hands, you'll find them attached on the chain link fence around Fort Point.
