I didn't know I was going to write that email this week. Shining a spotlight on business developments and on myself, it just felt like it invited scrutiny. Gossip. It was something I waffled on for a while. I am very grateful you heard what I had to say, and that you love San Francisco and The Bold Italic as much as I do.

The money donated the past two days won't keep all the lights on. But they will pay for us to remain on Ghost through 2027, and I'm sure beyond. In the meantime, I'm writing and publishing more than ever. I just posted an abominably late review of this past SF Symphony gala. I've been really motivated to write more, even on non-SF topics. Maybe my paid tier wants a little of that? You let me know. (Cringe OK, but I just have so many thoughts on Bridgerton S4, and I suppose more topically, the state of the AI industry right now.)

The embarrassing moment came when I sent that donation email, and then Stripe was like, "Nope." People tried to subscribe and failed. If you went via Mazlo, fear not: You're on my list and active. But if you still want to subscribe, it'll now work natively on our website here: https://www.thebolditalic.com/#/portal/signup

(And I know it works now, I paid for my own subscription. 😂)

It isn't just me around The Bold Italic. I'm collaborating lately with SF Standard alum Meaghan Mitchell. Also with Courtney Muro—my second-in-command when we had a bigger budget, and an amazing social media producer—and our mutual friend Chelsea Davis, who covers the San Francisco food scene. My good friend Katie Conrad and I have been discussing a way to revive The Bold Italic events. I want to put on nights like this but in San Francisco venues, and video produced live. Katie is a DJ and co-president of FLUX SF, and we have produced events together.

Which is all to say that the community lives on, thanks to you. Again, I appreciate you. I did not ask permission to name all who donated and wrote in, otherwise I would. But I saw your emails and comments, and tried to reply to all of them. Please keep reaching out and connecting.
