The Bold Italic is an arts and culture publication that has produced articles about San Francisco since 2009.
Accuracy
We verify before we publish, which means confirming names, dates, addresses, figures and quotes with the people and documents they come from, not with other coverage. When we cannot confirm something ourselves, we say so in the article.
Sources
We name our sources whenever we can. When we use an unnamed source, we say why in the story and we tell you what we did to verify what they told us. We seek comment from anyone we report on before we publish.

When we write about an organization we have a business, sponsorship or personal relationship with, we say so in the article. Sponsored content is labeled as sponsored, on the piece itself. No advertiser, sponsor, donor or funder reviews, approves or sees editorial work before publication.
Artificial intelligence
We do not publish AI-generated reporting.
We use AI tools for research assistance and production support on some pieces. Facts gathered by a tool are checked by a person before they run. Quotes are always from real people who said them, and a human editor is responsible for everything we publish under our name.
Corrections
If you believe something we published is wrong, email saul@thebolditalic.com with the story and what you think we got wrong. We read everything that comes in and we respond.
When we correct a factual error, we fix the error and add a note at the top or bottom of the story stating what was changed and when. For small fixes that do not affect meaning, such as a typo or a broken link, we make the change without a note.
