There is nothing better than hard science that empowers you to do something you were already doing. Scientific studies have already validated your proclivity to glug red wine, eat dark chocolate, and pet kitties but now there’s a study that caters to the baser yet no less satisfying act that all of us do everyday. I am of course referring to peeing in the shower.
A university in the U.K. is urging students to pee in the shower every morning. If you can get past the article’s adorable use of words like “wee” and “loo” you’ll find some interesting statistics. The Go With The Flow campaign posits that peeing during a morning shower could save up to 720 million liters of water if everyone in the UK did it. The article goes onto say that even if all of the students at the university started peeing in the shower the water saved would be roughly the amount needed to “fill an Olympic sized swimming pool 26 times.”
With California stuck in a drought and a small bit of rain in sight, this might be a good idea for us to start adopting (or for some of us to continue doing.) Plus, The Bold Italic has never been one to miss a golden opportunity to mix talk of drought with potty humor. Urine is sterile and you’re washing yourself anyway, but if you really need motivation, just pretend there’s a Portuguese man-of-war in there with you, poised to sting. You can also try couple’s shower peering, ala Hannah and Adam from Girls, and save twice the water! I recommend you crack open a cold beer, drink it in the shower, and see what happens. That, my friends is a lesson in recycling!
