LCD Soundsystem’s ode to a cleaned up and gentrified Manhattan, the grand “New York, I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down,” was one of the group’s great ballads. The song lamented a city that had lost the edge LCD main man James Murphy loved so much, and after noting all its changes he asks to be taken off the mailing list “for kids that think it still exists.”
Now a San Francisco duo of Kelly Niland and Chris von Sneidern pay homage to a changing Mission with a twist on LCD Soundsystem’s classic tune, and their version is called “Mission, I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down.” Much like the video we posted earlier today about the Michelin-ification and historical erosion of the neighborhood, this new commentary on the Mission is yet another outcry against the artistic community being priced out of its home so Valencia Street can house increasingly nicer things. Niland explained in an email, “After living in the Mission for 20 years and witnessing the increasing extremes in high and low living, I just channeled my frustration into a music video. That’s what therapists say to do, right?”

Thanks to Kelly Niland for the tip.
