What are you doing for Halloween? Are you one of those guys who doesn’t have a plan? The guy whose friends bragged all month about the sweet house party they would have and then flaked at the last minute? Fear not, here is a line up of things creepy, mysterious, spooky and some things that are all together ooky to do this Halloween.
Starve a Vampire, Give Blood
Want to do something nice with your blood before you soak it in Pumpkin 4 Loko later in the night (rest in peace sweet angel)? Head over to 1 Embarcadero center for the annual Halloween blood drive. The event starts at 8 a.m. with a free breakfast buffet and lasts until 4 p.m. Donors will also get refreshments throughout the day and have their name entered into a raffle to win Cirque du Soleil tickets. No word as to whether or not there will be blood orphans.
Starve No One, Get Burritos
Pretender to the burrito throne (Farolito why can’t you do a deal like this?!), Chipotle is giving out $3 burritos to anyone in costume tomorrow. Urban legend had it that the only way to get this boo-rito was to wrap yourself in foil and pretend to be a burrito from the restaurant (hopefully you added three measly pieces of meat amidst a mountain of rice to your costume for authenticity). But it seems like this year showing up to any location at 5 p.m. in any costume will get your burrito on the cheap and part of the proceeds will go to the Chipotle Cultivate Foundation.
Ghoul’s Night Out
Take your ghoul friend or your mummy to the Make Out Room to enjoy some monster centric tunes spun by DJ Tonearm. When you get tired from dancing (assuming you’re not a skeleton with no BODY to dance with) the event will also feature free Escape From New York pizza. Anyone dressed in a costume inspired by the ’00s gets in free.
A Very Quirky Halloween
Slap on your scout uniform, your Zissou hat, or your lucky Tannenbaum jumpsuit and visit this Wes Anderson art show. On Halloween the Spoke Art Gallery, previously home to a Kubrick art exhibit, will host a gallery party in honor of their new Wes Anderson collection. Come in costume and enjoy complimentary beverages, snacks, head on angles, and yellow color palates.
Boo-ha-ha
PamTastic’s Comedy Clubhouse of Horror is a weekly comedy showcase at Mutiny Radio in The Mission that combines music and stand up. The event is costumed and BYOB and always a great time. You can go to the already spooky fun basement of Lost Weekend Video for the Ghost The Friendly Ghost comedy show featuring some of the Bay Area’s hottest comics. Or you can check out The Business, an inspired comedy show that features Comedy Central’s Nato Green and other kick ass comedians. Plus use the Funcheap.com code and get $5 off admission.
Mayhem Mansion
You always thought those Victorian houses were creepy (and not just when you saw what they cost to own) and the Mayhem Mansion takes vibe that to the next level. Located on Franklin St., The Haas-Lilienthal House promises to deliver a spooky walk through tour for less than $20 per person. Plus the tour ends in a “Spookeasy” that serves Halloween themed libations to calm your nerves.
Truck or Treat
I can only fully endorse events with punny names and with that in mind you should go to Truck or Treat. The SoMa StrEat Food Park is hosting a Halloween party featuring super hero DJs, themed trucks, and scary movies. People who come in costumes get special discounts and the first 101 people to show up get a free beer!
Scary Movie
Looking for a mellow way to spend this haunted holiday? McCoppin Square in the Sunset is doing an outdoor screening of Neil Gaiman’s Coraline. This claymation film is spooky — not as spooky as the book (hell, if you want creepy, get the audio book read by Gaiman himself and featuring scary back up vocals) but still good. Cuddle up with your ghoul friend on a blanket and enjoy an outdoor picnic and movie.
Zombie Bar Crawl
There are two zombie themed pub-crawls going on. One starts at the Embarcadero and will feature makeovers and something called “zombie networking.” That crawl centers on Fisherman’s Wharf where you’ll see something scarier than the undead: tourists. Another horde of Zombies will be meeting at Union and Polk St. and will be haunting the bars near there and end by doing a flash mob version of “Thriller.”
Spooky Music
Goblins and ghoulies from last Halloween awaken the spirits with your tambourine … or badass guitar. There are several great music events to check out in the city tomorrow. Go to Brick and Mortar for their Guitarmegeddon event, which will feature bands playing their favorite Pink Floyd or Black Sabbath riffs.
