Camp is awesome and also happens to be one of the few socially acceptable ways to deal with the Peter Pan syndrome San Franciscans are so famous for. If you can, you should take advantage of some of the wonderful summer activities California has to offer and maybe even make a new friend or two in the process.

The Unique Camp wants entrepreneurs and other creative folks to let loose and remember that anything is possible at their four-day conferences held at Big Bear, California. It sounds like it’s based on the traditional kind of camp adventure a la Wet Hot American Summer. Which is great for personal and professional growth AND an excuse to wear your coonskin hat.

Camp Grounded takes over a 1970s Boy Scout camp in Anderson Valley and takes away all your precious tech. You can’t even bring a digital camera, but film cameras are welcome. Campers do all the typical summer camp movie stuff like making friendship bracelets and sleep in an all-girl or all-guy open air cabins. You can also bring a tent. And “Sneaking out is highly encouraged.”

Camp Art Seen’s founders are artists who want to “escape the ordinary,” aka get lost in the Mendocino Redwoods for three days each summer. They’ve collected a group of top notch art, design, story, and film people to lead hands on workshops to help you get your creative juices flowing.

Judd’s Hill Winery in Napa hosts a camp to help you learn while getting your buzz on. Their blending guides will lead you and your buddies through a tasting, lesson, and blending sesh. You can hand bottle, label, and foil seal the wine you blend yourself and take it home with you the same day.

SCRAP is a workshop space that was founded in SF in 1976. It’s also a non-profit creative reuse center that works to reduce waste by turning stuff headed for a land fill into low cost supplies for other (often beautiful) things.
Their official summer camp ran this week, but you can still catch a class in whatever strikes your fancy all summer long.
