San Francisco, in normal times, is home to world-class performances, ranging from Broadway plays to opera and the symphony. That cultural piece of the city has been missing since March. Without a doubt, live events and those who are part of them — musicians, dancers, singers, and actors as well as everyone behind the scenes—have been some of the hardest hit during the pandemic.
That’s why we love what we saw outside of John’s Grill Oasis on Ellis Street recently as ballet dancers from Smuin Contemporary Ballet performed on a raised stage in the middle of the street. Customers dining outside took in the show happily and clapped enthusiastically; those passing by stopped to watch. Even San Francisco Mayor London Breed attended.
The ballet company has performed twice at this location in October to sold out tickets, and we hope there are many more of these street or outdoor performances in the Bay Area to come. If you know of any coming up, comment on this article or send us an email.
